Stripe Reverse Invoice

You want to keep a target amount in USD. How much should you charge so fees don’t eat the difference?

Default fees mirror published Stripe US standard online card pricing (2.9% + $0.30). Adjust to your real rates. Source: stripe.com/pricing. Not affiliated with Stripe.

Formula

charge = (targetNet + fixed) ÷ (1 − percent)
fee = charge × percent + fixed
net = charge − fee

FAQ

Why not just add 2.9% on top?

Because the percent fee is charged on the gross amount. Adding 2.9% to your target leaves you short of the fixed fee and under-compensates the percent. The reverse formula fixes both.

Can I use this for PayPal or others?

Yes — change percent and fixed to that provider’s schedule. Labels say Stripe because that is our default US example.
